Wednesday, July 21 – House and Garden Walk – Geneva Lakes AAUW Branch
The cost is $30. We will carpool to the site for the tour and lunch. Lunch is included in the cost of the tour.

Tuesday, August 17 – A Tastebud Tour
We will take the train to Chicago and join the tour, which includes visits to several restaurants (Berghoffs, The Grillroom, Heaven on Seven, Pizano’s, Downtown Dog, Gold Coast Dog, The Purple Pig, Now We’re Poppin’, Sugar Bliss, The Billy Goat, and Sarah’s.) On the way to each restaurant we will learn historic facts about Chicago and its unique food. This is a walking tour ( 3-3 ½ hours). The cost is $44.00. It begins at 11:00 AM.

Friday, August 27 – ACE Craft Fair
$18 entrance fee.

October – Date to be Announced - The Touchstone Theatre – Spring Green, Wisconsin
Performance of The Syringa Tree. This will be an overnight trip.

 

20's and 30's BOOK CLUB

Reel Women/Real Women

Movie and Discussion Club - Meeting the 4th Tuesday from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Gail Borden Public Library, Community Room. Contact Janelle at 847-404-3482 for more information.

The true story of Michael Oher, a homeless African-American youngster from a broken home who was taken in by a wealthy white family who helped him fulfill his potential as a person and as an athlete. Starring Sandra Bullock, who received both the Golden Globe and The Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as the mother and the driving force behind Michael's success.

Based on the true story of a Midwestern housewife who just barely held her family together, battling poverty and her husband’s drinking but who found success by entering contests for ad slogans and jingles sponsored by consumer product companies. Starring Julianne Moore, Laura Dern and Woody Harrelson.
Aug. 24 The Young Victoria (2009) Covers the turbulent first years of Queen Victoria's rule and her enduring romance with Prince Albert. Starring Emily Blunt and Jim Broadbent.

Sept. 28 In the Time of Butterflies (2001) A true story based on the novel by Julia Alvarez about three sisters who were in fierce opposition to the dictatorship of General Leonidas Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. Starring Salma Hayek.
Oct. 26 The Painted Veil (2006) Based on the novel by Somerset Maugham, a tale of a woefully mismatched couple who end up in the Far East where they become involved in the fight against cholera. Starring Naomi Watts, Edward Norton.
Nov. 23 White Oleander (2002) Based on the novel by Janet Fitch. The story of a young teenager who is passed from foster home to foster home after her mother commits murder. Starring Alison Lohman, Robin Wright Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer, Renee Zellweger

Theatre News
The Theatre Group meets periodically throughout the year to attend community theatre productions together as a group.

Bridge 12th year
The AAUW Bridge program has successfully completed its 11th year. There is a $10 fee per person. This program is a fundraiser for the general funds of the branch. Both members and friends are eligible for this activity.

We currently have three groups:

Evening Singles - meet once a month at a specified time
Afternoon Singles - meet once a month at a specified time
Couples - times for each table are flexible
We are always looking for new players, as well as people who would like to substitute. If you enjoy playing fairly relaxed bridge, please call 847-695-7265.
